(via bigashtray.com) Organic Style Vintage Bark Glass Party Set
Impress your guests with shots and smokes served up in authentic mid-century art glass from the Scandinavian region. Made of vintage crystal.
Bark glass popularity surged in the 1970s when organic forms were the preferred décor of the truly mod. The heavily textured glass resembles wood and the colorless crystal seems to turn the wood into ice.
The texture is achieved by blowing molten glass into a carved clay, sand or wood mold. These mold substances allow the artist to hand-carve the intricate décor into a soft surface.
The bark pattern, made popular today by the luscious vintage designs of Whitefriars Glass (England), was produced in various styles by many top art glass studios throughout the world and reproduced by many household glass makers of the mid-20th century. This set is of good quality, perhaps by Riihimaki, Finland. The Scandinavian countries are famous for organic styling resembling the abundant beauty in nature.
The heavy ashtray measures 6” at widest, 2.25” tall, and weighs just under 2 lbs. Set includes six matching shot glasses with heat polished rims each measuring 2” wide and 2.5” tall. All in excellent condition.
